CNN: TOILET TALK

CNN anchor Kyra Phillips really shit the bed yesterday when she forget to turn off her mic while she was talking to a co-worker in the bathroom. Phillips' toilet talk ended up acting as voice over during President Bush's televised address regarding the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. However, Phillips' chatter is far more engaging than the president's. Especially when she begins bitching about her sister-in-law and what a control freak she is.

You need sound to truly enjoy this one. So turn it up.

PLUTO GIVEN THE PINK SLIP

Pictured: An artist's rendering of Pluto.

While disgruntled science teachers and nit-picky astronomers have been debating its status as a planet since the days when I was sporting parachute pants and a puffy Michael Jackson mesh hat from Family Dollar, Pluto was officialy given the pink slip yesterday -- kicked out of the exclusive "Planet Club" and demoted to Dwarf Planet. It's a shame to see it go, but Pluto had a good run, especially amidst the years of debate over its planetary status since being discovered in 1930. Now, the galaxy looks a little different, at least as viewed through the eyes of the International Astronomical Union meeting in Prague this week:

"In the new solar system as defined by the International Astronomical Union, meeting in Prague, there are eight planets instead of nine, at least three dwarf planets and tens of thousands of so-called smaller solar system bodies, like comets and most asteroids."

There is a potential silver lining to all of this Pluto bashing. Perhaps all this spirited debate will next focus attention on the Walt Disney character Pluto, and we'll finally find out why so many Disney characters suck.

THE ART OF ZACH JOHNSEN

Pictured: "Family Portrait" by Zach Johnsen.

When we first stumbled across the work of Zach Johnsen, it was purely by accident. His illustrations and designs were gracing the t-shirts, prints, and accessories of a company called Tank Theory, which we later came to understand was a clothing line that he co-founded. From there we perused his online portfolio, which was, and still is, rather stunning to say the least. His illustrations evoke a sense of fantasy and mysticism, with hints of dark undercurrents that foreshadow the coming of bad things (note: see above illustration to better understand what we mean).

However, Johnsen is not solely limited to crafting images of the macabre. His keen eye for design is evident in the diverse clothing and accessory line released through his Tank Theory brand. Images of businessmen wielding chainsaws; business women brandishing Conan-like swords; and other oddities like his "Admiral Burnside" tee.

If you haven't had the good fortune of witnessing Johnsen's work (either in-person or via the ether of the Internet), we recommend that you visit the following resources. You won't be disappointed.

CHANGE THE THOUGHT

Pictured: Editorial illustration done by Cox for Rojo magazine.

Our pal, art director and illustrator Christopher Cox, recently freshened up his website by adding a super sharp online store. Check out the great t-shirt designs he's put together. My personal favorite is "Apathetic Revolution."
